How to create an aesthetic Instagram feed

It’s one of the most asked questions in my Instagram DM’s: how can I create an aesthetic Instagram feed, just like yours? Because let’s face it… the first impression matters!

In my opinion, having an on-brand Instagram aesthetic is key to turning visitors into followers. It builds trust and shows you’re a trust-worthy business. Because who buys from a crappy looking brand, right?

Now, the good news is that you don’t need photography skills, expensive editing software or a picture-perfect feed. In this blog I share how to create an aesthetic Instagram feed to grow your account, wow your audience and show off your brand’s unique vibe.

How to create an aesthetic Instagram Feed?

You can see your Instagram page as your portfolio, website and resume in one. You only have a couple of seconds to grab people’s attention and to introduce yourself. A strong Instagram aesthetic CAN be the difference between someone hitting follow or swiping away.

But, how do you make a lasting impression and grow your community on Instagram? A few steps to get started:

  1. Establish your brand

  2. Choose an Instagram theme

  3. Stick to the plan on IG

  4. Plan ahead

Let’s talk more about these 4 steps.

Step 01. Establish your brand

Your brand’s identity is the foundation on which you’ll build upon. It’s your why and will help you shape your voice, the design of your posts, and how you connect with your Instagram community.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • How would you describe your brand in one sentence?

  • What’s your purpose?

  • Who is your target audience?

  • Why should Instagram users follow you?

Once you’ve got the answers, you’re on the road to better communicating your Instagram aesthetic.

Step 02. Choose an IG theme

Now that you've established your brand, it's time to define your Instagram aesthetic. Creating a mood board can get your creative juices flowing and guide you in the direction of what you want your feed to look like.

Whether that be a consistent theme, a color palette, or just a general vibe:

Include a mix of colors, textures, patterns, and quotes to help you better visualize your feed. Make sure your mood board sets the tone of the vibe you want to have on your Instagram feed.

Step 03. Stick to the plan

From your Instagram profile image to your Highlights, feed and Reels videos: your Instagram’s aesthetic is reliant on multiple components. It’s very important to keep them all on-brand, so your audience will get the same vibe and style on every touch point.

Here are 3 ways to maintain a cohesive Instagram aesthetic on your Instagram profile:

01. Create an on-brand profile image
Your profile image needs to match your brand style and aesthetic vibe. You can use your logo as a profile image, but it’s even better if you use a personal image of you.

An easy way to keep up appearances on your Instagram page is to match your profile picture to your overall aesthetic. Wear clothes in your brand colors or replace the background in Canva with your brand colors.

02. Create an aesthetic Instagram feed

Think about when someone visits your Instagram profile for the first time. Your feed is probably the first thing they see. Make sure your feed is on-brand. Use the same fonts, colors, filters and type of images and videos to keep your feed look consistent.

For example: I stick to using only 1 or 2 specific arrow elements in all my graphics, to stay on-brand. And I always make sure I use images that match with my brand colors. Your brand colors, fonts, and textures can all help to shape a unique and captivating aesthetic on your Instagram feed.

03. Create aesthetically pleasing videos
In a time where we all create more and more videos, it’s very important to match your Reels and Stories to your brand style and aesthetics. This can be as simple as using the same Instagram font for every video you create inside Instagram. Or incorporating your brand colors when using text or drawing tools.

Quick tip: if you find great videos in Canva, you can find more of the same creator to stay on-brand. Inside TTV you’ll find helpful Canva tutorial videos on how to do this.

Step 04. Plan ahead

There’s one thing that can kill your overall aesthetic vibe, and that’s ‘creating content when you have the time for it’. If you want to create an aesthetic Instagram feed it wil definitely be helpful to plan ahead.

With TTV’s Instagram feed planner you can see how your feed will look in advance. You can just use the premade Canva templates kit, customize it into your own brand style and upload it to the feed planner. This way you’ll see how your new content will look on your feed before you hit publish!

Have fun!
